Professor Luckson Kaino

Professor and Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs at Josiah Kibira University College of Tumaini University in Tanzania.

Proff. Luckson Kaino is a Professor and Deputy Provost for Academic Affairs at Josiah Kibira University College of Tumaini University in Tanzania. Previously, Professor Kaino taught at the University of South Africa (UNISA), South Africa where he served as the Chair of Research & Innovation as well as the Chair of Postgraduate Studies in the Department of Mathematics Education. He was the Head of Department at the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at the University of Botswana before joining UNISA. Professor Kaino also taught at the University of Swaziland in Swaziland, Limpopo University in South Africa and worked as a Principal Curriculum Developer at the Institute of Education in Tanzania before joining the University of Swaziland. He is a graduate of the University of Salzburg, Salzburg in Austria with a Doctor of Sciences degree (Dr rer nat) in mathematics education. He also has a Master of Science (MSc) degree in mathematics and a Bachelor of Science with Education honors (BSc with Ed Hons) degree in Physics, Mathematics and Education, both degrees obtained from the University of Dar es salaam in Tanzania.

Professor Kaino has a teaching experience and research of more than 20 years in the field of education particularly in education research, curriculum development and evaluation. He has widely researched and published in mathematics and technology education and won many research awards and grants. He has been a guest speaker at a number of international academic forums and he is a member of many professional organizations. His expertise lies in the area of mathematical modeling and applications. His research areas of interest are mathematics curriculum development, mathematics teacher knowledge, research and evaluation in mathematics and technology education, mathematical modeling, ICTs in mathematics instruction, gender studies in mathematics and technology education, ethno mathematics/indigenous knowledge and numerical analysis. Professor Kaino is the current President of the Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and Southern African (OSSREA) based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Before his appointment as OSSREA President, he was the Coordinator/Liaison officer of the OSSREA South African Chapter.
